Rib League Starts TODAY!

Well the Ribblesdale League starts today with the fixture of the day surely being the game between Padiham and Barlik? With players leaving Padiham to join their first game opponents in the pre season, there could be a bit of spice at this game today! All results and reviews of the first days league action will follow as the results come into me. Good luck to all teams involved and here is to a good warm sunny season ahead for all!

Not so Easy for England!

It wasnt as easy as England thought it was going to be today against the “mighty” Dutch! After a very lax day in the field by England in which there was chances galore dropped, the Netherlands posted 292 for 6 with Ten Doeschate making a fantastic 119 off 110 balls including nine 4s and three 6s!

When England strode to the wicket there must have been some nerves, but really there was no doubting that Englands top order would destroy the Dutch bowlers and the target would be smashed! That really was the case as every Batsman made 30 with the skipper making a fantastic 88 off 83 and Trott making 62.

All in all, England will not have another day like this in the field and its good England got it all out of the way against Holland!

Australia Ease Past Zimbabwe!

Australia opened their account in the World Cup with an easy victory over Zimbabwe. With Watson carrying on his fantastic form by top scoring with 79 including eight 4s and a maximum. Vice Skipper Clark also contributed with an unbeaten 58 off just 55 balls but only scoring four boundries! Wickets were shared out by the Australians but with one outstanding 4 wicket haul for just 19 runs from Johnson.

Season is not far Away!

With the season only a short time away and indoor nets well on there way, The Ribblesdale league is looking forward to what will most definately be a competitive season ahead! With Clitheroe losing a few players and Read losing their top amateur and skipper, maybe the top of the table will look different come September? Thoughts on who will be challenging for honours at the end of the season are mostly all different with most clubs believing they have what it takes. Our thoughts on Amateur Cricket are that it is going to be a very well fought league and we are looking forward to watching and reporting the progress of the Ribblesdale League season!

Predictions to be up and around the top, at the end of the season are Barnoldswick, Read, Earby with the dark horses to be Padiham!

Enfield have new Pro!

Enfield C.C have had some bad news in that of Lendl Simmons will not be joining them for the 2011 season! Lendl has had to stay at home for personal reasons. Its not really what any club needs with only a short time until the new season, but they have acted very quickly and signed South African All-Rounder, Werner Coetsee. Coetsee will be the clubs 6th South African Pro and should be happy at the signing with Coetsee scoring near 3000 runs averaging 29 and having 172 wickets averaging 34 at first-class cricket!

What would you think about the signing and the loss of Simmons? Which would you prefer to have in your team?

Lancashire Cricket League

The Lancashire Cricket League was formed oin 1892. Currently in membership are Accrington CC, Bacup CC, Burnley CC, Church CC, Colne CC, East Lancashire CC, Enfield CC, Haslingden CC, Lowerhouse CC, Nelson CC, Ramsbottom CC, Rawtenstall CC, Rishton CC, and Todmorden CC(coincidently actually in Yorkshire).

The early 1890s saw the sudden emergence of cricket leagues all over Lancashire, with the first in 1888 ? the Bolton Association. The North Lancashire League and the Central Lancashire League all started the same year as the Lancashire League in 1892.

In the early years, until 1899, it was possible for each team to field two professionals, but this was restricted for the 1900 season to one professional. The League Centenary was celebrated in 1992!

In 1981 the name was amended to include the name of a sponsor, initially Blackburn brewer Mathew Brown, later E.W.Cartons, and currently Sponsorbank.

The Lancashire League has always been a fourteen club league. In the late 19th century Todmorden left to be replaced by Bury but later came back and replaced Bury. Edenfield have entered the 20/20 Cup since 2007 but have not entered any other competition.

We are still tinkering with the site as yet but we look forward to plenty of interaction from all amateur leagues that we will feature. We will be very heavily involved with clubs to get up to date news, interviews etc and we look forward to keeping you up to date with the the season ahead in 2011 as well as keeping you all informed of transfer news, Pro news and general goings on at each club! We will also look at the National side of the game and keep you up to date with all news from World International cricket!
